Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

15 May 2022This is a good route between two nice places - both Usk and Caerleon are worth a visit. It follows the Usk Valley Walk, which is mostly well-marked and easy to navigate. Points to take heed of:
1) Just south of Usk, I found it easier to walk along the river embankment than the UVW route across the adjacent fields, although there's no official path.
2) In the wood north of Cat's Ash (Kemeys Graig), stay on the forest track - go straight on.
2) At the southern end of Kemeys Graig the track is a path which joins Coed y Caerau Lane just behind Chapel Cottage (a modern house).
3) The UVW markers follow the road between Chapel Cottage and Cat's Ash, but I used a path taking a more direct route (not marked but well-trodden) - shown on this route. In wet conditions it may be better to stay on the road.
4) On Chepstow Hill (above Caerleon), the UVW is difficult to navigate where it passes below a small lake opposite the Celtic Manor - overgrown with nettles. Instead, walk around the lake towards a clump of small trees. Look for a path leading away from the lake, towards a pylon. Follow this path down the slope to the road (just below the pylon); then take the path across the road, which joins the UVW.
5) In the wood above Caerleon there are 2 paths with the same start/finish points, though only the higher one (the UVW) is marked on the OS map. The other path takes a lower route through the wood, while the UVW skirts the golf course. I recommend the lower path as there's less chance of going astray; from the golf course it's easy to miss the points where the UVW re-enters the woods.
For the woodland path, follow the "Caerleon" signs if heading downhill. If leaving Caerleon, after you enter the woods from Bulmore Rd the path splits above a wooden gate: turn left (UVW goes right).
