Description
This route is a more accurate version of Caecal1. There were a few discrepancies between the OS rights of way and the actual paths:
1) Just north of the M4, near Caldicot, walk in a straight line towards Dewstow Farm. Join the road just before the first house. (I walked up the driveway, as shown on OS, but the signpost on the road takes you through the field behind the house.)
2) When the track through Slade Wood reaches a T-junction (near The Minnetts), take the well-trodden footpath that leads straight on & gradually downhill, taking you to the bottom of the wood/field edge. Then follow the track along the edge of the wood.
3) Near Carrow Hill it's best to stay on the road (not much traffic) - easier than across the field. The route through Pen-y-lan Farm is fine, but the field below the farm could be waterlogged - better to walk around it.
4) At Ford Farm (Langstone) use the main entrance. The path is clearly marked by the large silver container behind the house.
5) In Langstone, the path across the field north of the main road (opposite the motel) is clearly marked, but the route into the adjacent field is out of use - better to walk along the road to the adjacent field and up the paved access road

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

19 Mar 2022 (edited 15 May 2022)I walked from Caldicot to Caerleon - a nice route with mostly well-used paths across woods and fields. A few stiles were in need of repair, but generally paths were easy to access and navigate. This map shows the best way to walk, which sometimes differs from the rights of way on the OS map.
Note that in the wood above Caerleon there are 2 paths with the same start/finish points, though only the higher one (the UVW) is marked on the OS map. The other path takes a lower route through the wood, while the UVW skirts the golf course. I recommend the lower path as there's less chance of going astray; from the golf course it's easy to miss the points where the UVW re-enters the woods.
For the woodland path, follow the "Caerleon" signs if heading downhill. If leaving Caerleon, after you enter the woods from Bulmore Rd the path splits above a wooden gate: turn left (UVW goes right).
