The only exception being at the end of the last field leading on to the lane into Bishton, which was completely overgrown, but at least there is a gate close by that can be climbed. Photo 1 - A green lane leading into the fields section after Magor...

No real comments to add from the last review although the long straight stretch south of Rogiet is very long and uninspiring! Mostly all easy to follow and some nice views. No access problems from memory....

In the last field before hitting the housing estate you need to make sure you cross over into the field to the right half way and head towards the houses or you end up in someone's back garden next to a Brook....

1) At the western end of Slade Wood (near Caldicot), the path from the end of the gravel track to the field edge is marked on the Landranger maps, but not Explorer.....

I walked from Caldicot to Caerleon - a nice route with mostly well-used paths across woods and fields....

I’ve uploaded an improved version of this walk - see Newcal 5. I experienced a couple of access problems with Newcal 4:. 1) Coming from Newport, the path into Llanwern was blocked by a construction site. Access may be reinstated when the new housing is finished, but in Sep 2021 the route was impassable. 2) The footpath east of Bishton was totally overgrown (despite being clearly signposted from the village)...

Getting a bus from Friars Walk bus station to Ringland shortens the walk through Newport. Magor is good for a refreshment break....

Walk this routeThe route does not go into town centre, so if you need supplies use the Tescos near the station. From Chepstow station, Calche two follows the NCN cycle route with blue signs and red 42 numbers all the way to the A466 where the route goes under that M48 access road and heads into Wyelands Estate pastures. The end of the walk is along a main road to the Slate Cross in Caldicot Town Centre (photo 5)....

Walk this routeStarting from the Caldicot Cross the route takes you out of Caldicot to the Severn Estuary where you pick up the Wales Coast Path next to the Second Severn Crossing. As an alternative the walker could keep to the Wales Coast Path from Mathern all the way to Chepstow....
