Description
Not easy to find a nice route out of Buckfastleigh with a river, a railway and the A39 dual carriageway to cross. Several bridges are narrow lanes with nowhere for pedestrians to go. This route crosses the river by the main bridge (has pavement) and then goes via the main A38 junction. Not ideal but there are narrow grass verges with good visibility and pavement on the bridge over the A38. After that the route provides a combination of narrow country lanes (probably with limited traffic) and footpaths. There are country pubs at nice intervals along the route

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

16 Jan 2023 (edited 17 Jan 2023)I wasn’t sure how to rate this route as it is a good route on the whole, but it has to fail as a slow way due to an access issue east of Woolston Green, Landscove. I have therefore given it one star so that there’s no doubt.
The track plotted via Blackler Barton has no recorded public access (not on definitive map or list of streets). Checked in case there was access on the ground, eg permissive access, but there is a sign saying ‘no unauthorised persons’, so that’s a no.
The rest of the route is good though and I have reviewed an alternative which uses the majority most of the same route, whilst avoiding the access issue by using a footpath through Beara. Will upload Bucipp two shortly with review.
