Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

  1. Complete the survey training.

This is a good route that I managed to follow, but it's not walkable as drawn. Like Paul, I couldn't find the path behind Waun Ebbw Road. Happy to update this review if you can correct me on this.

I'm uploading an alternative that definitely works.

Just a short walk linking these two neighbouring places. The path follows the 465 cycle route for some of the way. After leaving Brynmawr town centre, the path follows part the western side of Brynmawr Pond, a former reservoir. Pleasant views across the pond, before the path leaves and cuts through a fairly new housing estate, eventually leading into the Winchestown area of Brynmawr. I couldn`t find the path from Waun Ebbw Road, that`s supposed to cut through to the fields behind the houses, so I followed the road to the end of the houses and turned left on to another road to rejoin the path, which crosses the road and on through another housing estate, until it reaches the bridge over the main A467 road. After the bridge, the next section follows Farm Road, which is a quiet lane with housing on the left, but nice views over the fields to the right. It gets quieter as the lane deviates from the main A467. The final stretch is up a steep (22% incline) metalled path to reach the car park and central area of Nantyglo. It was all over so quickly, I didn`t get around to taking any photos. This was part of a 4-Slow Ways walk from Brynmawr to Newbridge.
