Description
Improved version of Browok One with corrections to make clear where to cross over the canal. Also picks the quieter non-cycle side where there is a choice.
This route follows the Basingstoke Canal between Brookwood and Woking. It is mostly canal towpath, off road, well made, with one or two very short sections which may be muddy after rain

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

02 Apr 2023This route has an advantage over Browok1, in that it has apparently been walked and recorded precisely with a .gpx file, whereas Browok1, as a succcession of straight lines, appears to have been created differently.
However their fundamental difference is only one of preference. The side of the Basingstoke Canal proposed by Browok2 has two places where walkers can avoid crossing roads which those on Browok1 can't; however it is also slightly narrower and (at least today, soon after some recent days of downpours) muddier than Browok1.
The reality is either of the Browok routes is agreeable for a wander, and not very challenging (the opposite direction would be a little more so, as the canal locks go uphill that way). Much of the towpath is surfaced off, making it easy to walk on, and alos attractive to other walkers and cyclists.
One last point is that according to my Strava recording, the route is a little longer than 4 miles. at 4.5 miles.

02 Apr 2023This route isn't too long, at about an hour and a half timewise, it can be done by all age groups. Going along the canal, you're able to see lots of wildlife whilst also going through a few villages. However, there are quite a few small hills that could be challenging to those who can't walk, alongside the terrain which can be very muddy outside of summertime.

27 Mar 2023Excellent direct route along canal towpath between Brookwood and Woking. Almost entirely off road, flat and step free - although there are one or two points where the path is a little narrow and some mud after rain (not much).
I very much enjoyed this walk on an early spring day, plenty of ducks on the water and primroses in the woods.
I made this new version which is slightly amended from Browok One, and corrects a problem where it needs to be clear that the path crosses the canal.
