29 Oct 2022Review of SlowWays Route Bristi two (Bridge of Allan to Stirling two)
This is a challenging route on a number of fronts (although I reviewed it after a week of heavy rain so this may have exacerbated some of the challenges). I walked the route north to south (i.e. Stirling to Bridge of Allan). The first part of the route is along city streets and over a steep and cobbled humpbacked bridge. The next part is along the edge of the river with a very variable track, sometimes hardly discernible in the long grass. Some sections very muddy. There are two locked gates to negotiate. However the main problem I encountered was that the section of the path which goes under the railway bridge at NS78959645 was completely flooded. Access was completely impossible and dangerous to even attempt. I retraced my steps for a couple of hundred metres then detoured through a small sports pitch and along Forth Park, Vale Grove and the B823 before taking a rough path at NS79129661 to re-join the original route. The remainder of the walk into Bridge of Allan was simple enough. Although it is certainly challenging due to the very variable surface, the two locked gates and the fact that the path is barely discernible in places, I found the route interesting and very scenic. However I am unable to recommend it as it was completely impassable due to flooding on the day I attempted it.

29 Jun 2021The route is not well pathed between Castle Vale and Forth Park - fine for an adventurous stroll (with boots if wet) but not the best point-to-point.
