Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

30 Jan 2025Another lovely slow way. Unlike the previous reviewer, I had no issues with crop taking over the footpath. Possibly the time of year I walked (bleak mid winter). The route utilises two named paths - The Jack Mytton Way (very muddy) from Highley to Hampton and then the Severn Way all the way into Bridgnorth.
Although no crop issues - the river had encroached onto the footpath in a couple of places. Also had two instances of land owners either putting signs or fencing blocking off public rights of way. Both reported. It is easy to get around the issue but the cheek of it is annoying.
So many refreshment options in Bridgnorth but if you are going the opposite way, Highley is now a dry village. The Bache Arms (enjoyed by the previous reviewer :-) ) now closed down.

19 Jun 2023A lovely route along a well te dedicated Riverside walk for the first 1.5 miles. After that is an unkempt right of way running between the river bank and farmers fields. There's a 2 mile section where the route is sandwiched between wheat fields and extremely overgrown riverbanks, making it a really tough walk. I'm a fit guy who walks and runs regularly, and I found it hard going. The foliage is 4 feet tall in places. Once you get to the caravan park at the Unicorn pub, you head away from the river and start climbing out of the valley. The public right of way is unclear and not signposted. You need to head up the left hand side of the pub following the signs for some bungalows, and across the railway line. Then head straight across the fingers field, rather than around the edge like I did. And don't use the Bache arms pub in Highly as a stop off at the end. Full of strange folk, beer is naff, and there's a minimum £5 spend if you want to use a card...overall a decent walk purely for the scenery. A beautiful part of the world.. just a hard going walk, and not necessarily the most appropriate to link Bridgenorth and Highly.
