07 Jun 2023 (edited 08 Jun 2023)Walked from Brierley Hill to Dudley. A good enjoyable route.
From Brierley Hill High Street, we turn left onto Level Street, which we follow across the A4036 and down the hill to a roundabout, where we join the canal through the Waterfront development and on through a series of bends, under the A4036 and over a footbridge to reach Blackbrook Road, which we follow uphill over another canal to reach a nature reserve. I suspect there may be easier and flatter linespaths than the GPX/right of way line, which drops down easy angled steps twice then climbs to reach Cinder Bank, which we cross, then follow New Road up the hill, continuing up Vicar Street, then right into the centre of Dudley and the meeting point by the bus station.

24 Oct 2021This route starts in Brierley Hill High Street and soon turns alongside the dual carriageway of Level Street. There are pedestrian crossings throughout so it feels safe. You turn left onto Dudley Canal Number One and pass the numerous chain bars and restaurants of the Waterfront Development. The walk along the canal is very pleasant when you do, it feels a shame to leave it. I'm wondering if there might be another route which continues to the top of the canal which would involve following slightly busier roads later on into Dudley. You leave the canal to cross Saltwells Nature Reserve which is a nice quiet, friendly stretch of the walk. As you leave the tracks of the reserve you cross the busy A459 (you can use pedestrian islands to do so). And start the ascent through the terraced residential streets of south Dudley. Entry into the centre is via the pedestrian crossing over King Street and then through Rutland Passage into the High Street and then through the Market Place to the meeting spot outside the Bus Station. If I could give this route 4.5 stars I would, because although I believe it to be the best Slow Way between Brierley Hill and Dudley I still wonder if there might be a better route using more of Canal Number One. Saying that, it's direct, offroad, safe and an enjoyable walk so I'll give it 5 stars.
