Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

This walk cannot be completed as the gates at North Lodge on Kinnaird Park are locked, they are relatively high, there is no way round (high walls) and despite the issue being raised with the estate they have failed to provide pedestrian and bicycle access (I have also reported this)

It is a shame as this is a lovely route. It begins on roads, with an unfortunate stretch on the arterial road out of Montrose, but then minor roads to a rather scary metal bridge and jump down onto the first of a long stretch of beats (fishing areas) alongside the river, gentle shade and good walking paths.

However, it is possible to get round the problem with the gate. At Scotston there is a footbridge to Fishers Cottage, turn right at the end of the footbridge and you can take the road up through Balbirnie Mill to the A935 and then a 2k walk in on an A road

The only other alternative is to loop up onto the A935 which means a 2k walk on an arterial road with no verges and 1k on a minor road

All that is accessible is not suitable for wheelchairs. Off road bike and buggies could do most of it, although for these I would suggest that rather than coming down onto the river at Powmouth they go further along the road and instead walk down at Haughs of Kinnaird.
