Description
Following Chris Chapman's suggestion, here is a longer but more pleasant alternative to the short but boring Brelon 2.
It takes quieter roads past the edge of Breaston and through Long Eaton, with a pleasant stretch of the Erewash Canal - perfect for a sunny stroll from one settlement to the other

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

14 Nov 2024This is a more scenic and less direct route than Brelon two. I walked this from Long Eaton to Breaston.
The route is clear. There is one obstruction which is easily avoided.
The walk starts off going north along the Erewash Canal eventually reaching the former Sandiacre Lock and the junction of the old Derby Canal. The next part of the walk is a scenic stroll along the former Canal.
There is an obstruction just before the walk crosses the B6002 Longmoor Road (Photo 1). This is mentioned in reviews of other walks that use this stretch of the former Canal. To avoid this go through the gate on your right (Photo 2) and turn left into Waterside Close until you reach Longmoor Lane. Turn left and then cross road using pedestrian refuge. Turn left and then right down a path (Photo 3) that connects you back with the walk.
When the path reaches Bostocks Lane an alternative route is to go along the signposted bridleway opposite. This is quieter but more muddy than the route indicated on the map- this eventually joins the mapped route just before the M1 is reached.
After going under the M1 there is a footpath signposted to the right that goes parallel to Longmoor Lane.
Eventually you reach the Navigation Inn, where you turn left along Risley Lane to reach the centre of Breaston.
Trentbarton Indigo bus connects both ends of the walk.
