Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

18 Jul 2022Suggest highest rate if the cycleway over the WCML is accessed to avoid the Woodford Road bridge from the new knoll summit.

07 May 2022No issue at Distaff Barn the side gate allows access to the footpath, you are on CCTV but where are we not monitored. The main issue for me is the lane and bridge that crosses the railway. See picture which warns of pedestrians in the road, it also has a sign to indicate it narrows over the bridge. There is no pavement and no verge. This is far too dangerous to recommend as a Slow Way. I walked an alternative which was fine see Brapoy-2.

16 Dec 2021A reroute is needed, because a footpath shown on the map, and currently used in this route, is blocked by a new house. Details below.
I walked this route on 16 Dec 2021. It is fine for anyone who can manage a couple of stiles, several steps (20 up and 20 down) and manage a bit of mud - but not possible for wheelchairs and not recommended for prams. Route easy to find (except for diversion detailed below). Of necessity it uses a lot of suburban roads - particularly at the Bramhall end, which means that it isn't the "prettiest" of Slow Ways.
I walked this from Poynton to Bramhall; my comments are in walking order E to W.
1. The main issue is that the footpath shown heading WNW from the Woodford Road at gridref 905840 is impassable. There's a yellow footpath sign, but an expensive flash house (Distaff Barn or some similar name) sits in the way and I couldn't find a route through.
2. Instead: I propose this route change : Head SW down Woodford Road for about 300m to the A5149. At that junction, take the footpath that heads approx due W, and after 300m cross the A555 using their impressive horse-crossing-point. Then take the footpath starting at gridref 899839 and head NNW until you meet the original Slow Ways route at 898840.

21 Jul 2022the way through the Distaff Farm housing is through the gate house right door as you face Bramhall and following the drive edge to the side of a detatched garage where there is now a userfriendly wooden gate. No need to trouble the imaginary horses on the A555 crossing!

18 Jul 2022the route over the railway bridge is dangerous opt to go over woodford road and take narrow footpath to Distaff Road and playing fields. Farmer blocks the route next to oil terminal by locking the gates and keeps wiring over an alternative stile that is not on his land. Keep on clearing it away until we get some council action.

18 Jul 2022How can this route be given 5 stars when a part is described as dangerous advising that users should follow the route plotted in Brapoy-2?
Ricardo
18 Jul 2022see intended diversion that can be accessed through the perimeter A555 fence , note ...all the collar land around the a555 and its underpass is highway land so fences should not be there ...remove passthrough or scale as necessary !

20 Jul 2022Ricardo, Where are you saying the farmer is blocking the path? Can you provide a grid reference?
I am not aware of any blockages. The route through Distaff Barn is open. However, I agree that the road bridge over the railway is dangerous. I will propose an alternative route.
Ricardo
21 Jul 2022Gozzer, the route walked in part is a track dubbed HGB19 from the oil terminal to Distaff Farm. It is blocked near the oil terminal gate by a chained field gate and at the access to the A555 cycleway preventing use to avoid the dangerous bridge. To a555 cycleway at sj 9027 8411 and at unlawful fence sj9038 8419. The former is marked by half round timber and barbed wire fencing which was not the type used by A555 contractors. The route is a 6m wide cart track/service road to Distaff Farm from the oil terminal road. The blocked gate is SJ 89983 84102 an alternative permissive path through the oil terminal gate splay was stopped up by the A555 scheme so we are trespassing (technically).
