Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

08 Jan 2022The start and end of the route is on pavements next to main roads through the towns of Bonnyrigg and Gorebridge. The rest of the route passes through woodlands and open fields. The area around Dalhousie Castle has a few fallen trees blocking paths from the recent storms in November 2021 but they can be easily navigated around. If you don't like walking in mud I'd avoid this route during periods of wet weather as it can get very muddy. Terrain is moderate with no major hills to contend with other than on the approach to Gorebridge town centre itself although you are back on paved paths at that point so it's very manageable. All in all it's a very pleasant walk on a nice day with a great opportunity to take in views of Cockpen Church, Dalhousie Castle and open fields heading towards Gorebridge.
