Description
This route is Bolgla but with a more accurate plot. It may take an alternative route through Palterton because Bolgla is especially unclear here. I have made a minor alteration at Glapwell to use a direct footpath through the pub car park. Dedicated to Stephen Walker another Slow Way reviewer, keep up the good work

05 Apr 2023 (edited 06 Apr 2023)Walked from Glapwell to Bolsover. An easy, direct and pleasant route that would have good views on a clear day. The path south of Palterton appeared to be blocked by a high fence, but it was not locked and I was able to move it.
From the meeting point at Glapwell, we use the pelican crossing opposite the Young Vanish pub to cross the A617, then take the path through the pub car park to Back Lane, where we go left a short distance to find the path off The Pinfold. This leads easily across fields to the Bolsover escarpment, which gives views west (when it isn't as wet and grey as it was when I walked it!). We follow the path along the escarpment and through a sheep pasture into Crow Hill/Palterton (picture 8 shows the fence I had to move, that was being used to keep cows and sheep in separate fields.
A farm lane leads to Main Street, where we go straight on and take the field path right at the end of the village. This leads across more fields to Hillstown, where a slightly muddy alleyway takes us to Langwith Road, which we cross and follow to reach the path parallel to the ancient earthwork. At the far end of the park we turn left and cross a pelican crossing, then follow the A632 down to the meeting point at the Market Place bus stops.

09 Feb 2023A good direct walk with some great views best seen heading northwards. No stiles but one field with cattle and sheep. Lots of interest along the way, no services. Frequent buses to Mansfield and Chesterfield from Glapwell.
I walked south and had a low winter sun in my eyes so made occasional turns to appreciate the views. I had walked a part of this impressive ridge north of Bolsover and still make a comparison with other more remote ridge walks, this is a hidden gem.
It starts with some road walking broken up by a path alongside 'ancient earthworks' so the map tells me. A fingerpost directs us first to a track but then towards a house, the narrow footpath goes alongside on the left. It's a bit hemmed in until we escape into countryside where the view westward opens up.
I plotted the route via Main Street at Palterton so fork across the open grass field. Properties along Main Street have that all important selling feature, location, location, location with far reaching views and we have the benefit of strategically positioned public seats which would be nice to linger on had it been a little warmer. There is no pavement but the traffic was very light.
The village exit is directly opposite at the cross roads this soon enters a clutter of farm activity before perhaps following an old track dropping part way down the hill. From here the view is obstructed by a hedge and band of trees with the path hugging the field edge.
The final approach to Glapwell takes the path across a large field. There was sign of some use but after cultivation the accurate plot will be useful as there was no evidence that the farmer makes the path apparent as required by the Highway Act 1980 sec.134.
Not much at Glapwell but the Inn looks the sort to be open all day and a couple at the bus stop visit once a week from Clay Cross for lunch so that may be a recommendation.
