Description
Looking to walk Bolclo I inspected Bolclo-1 and found it to be poorly plotted and used a long section of road without a pavement. I offer this alternative. No services on this short walk of field paths, green lanes and a pavement alongside the road. Mainly a ridge walk so some unexpected excellent views

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

26 Aug 2023I walked from Bolsover. The route begins on the pavement of the B6418 with a good view towards the west. After a mile we turn right (east) to join a rough lane heading downhill through stables. After the last building the path is a narrow corridor between electric fences and reaches a stream. Emerging from the woodland onto the edge of an arable field the RoW heads diagonally left. On the day I walked, the field had been recently harrowed and there was no obvious path, however from the top of the first slope we can see the gateway we are heading for. Through the gateway the route joins a stony lane for 0.3 miles, before turning up a green land between the houses and climbing two fields towards Oxcroft. Clambering over the wall gets us onto Oxcroft Lane where we turn left. At the first sharp bend the path leaves the road heading straight ahead across the fields. The good view returns towards the west. The path takes us to the edge of Clowne, and following down the roads we reach the 'hub'. I really enjoyed this walk. It is a good slow way route - short, direst and scenic.

17 Jul 2022A true country field walk with some road walking but these are either short and quiet or have pavements. Only horses seen in the grass fields, crops in others but the paths were either walk trampled or cleared by the farmer. Stiles and gates, the latter with broken catches which could be a finger trapper.
A fairly short exit from Clowne on route to Bolsover. A narrow path between houses then along the backs before entering open countryside. Wow! what a surprise, we could be on the South Downs, Ridgeway or the Cleveland Way at Hambleton Down. Okay there are few large industrial sheds but even they are made tiny by the vast view across to the edge of the Peak District.
The path remains on the ridge to Oxcroft. On the approach take care of the gates which have lost their operating tumbler. A short section of quiet road without a pavement then across fields to the unmade Church Road before another path across a cropped field to another unmade track. Lots of barking dogs, one is safely called back from warning off an intruder on its territory, which it saw as extending to the lane along which I walked.
There would appear to be many options to approach or exit Bolsover but this one, while along a roadside pavement, may well offer the best view of the castle. Standing on the ridge that our walk follows it commands a fine westward outlook while our view of 'it' can be difficult to obtain.
The meeting place for Bolsover is good in a decent small town centre so plenty of services to make up for nothing along the way.
