Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

01 Apr 2024We pioneered this route with a youth group to make a Slow ways story. We did make it to our destination over two days of walking with a camping overnight stop in the middle at South Penquite near Blisland. We were met (literally) by landowners who knew there was no access to at least 4 parts of the route and did not allow us through in some places. We did manage to navigate new routes through but some of this was also not 100% rights of way, as once off of the moor at Butterstor, there were few options. The track through the woodland next to Butterstor was fenced and had oppressive heavy security, I would not recommend this route but it is the one we still used as there were few options that were not just turning back or a reasonable distance for this part of the journey. We have logged lost paths with the Ramblers-Don't lose your way.
Some rights of way footpaths that are marked on OS do not exist and some paths suggested by Slow ways are private property. Due to several diversions, our route was longer and did mean we walked roads more than planned. Despite our difficulties we did have a positive experience overall and learned lots about our shrinking right to roam!
All attached photos show our actual activity / walked route, which was not always the suggested slow ways route.
