Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

12 Mar 2022I completed this route in four 4/5 hr stages : Alnwick-Ellingham-Belford-Fenwick-Berwick during Feb and Early March. The X-15 Alnwick to Berwick uses these stops along the route and this made it easy to walk out and bus back each day. It could reasonably be done in two days in summer, using Belford which is a good base for east-west routes too. It is a varied route through large estate woodlands (suffering from winter storms), low moorlands, mixed farming country with a great coastal stretch into Berwick. Perhaps 70% is across farming land and livestock will be encountered including sheep with lambs and cows with calves, so not suitable for dogs. Signage is Ok and the only difficulty I had was on the high moor outside South Charlton where the public path is criss-crossed by wind turbine access roads. There appears to be a wide range of accommodation from B&B to ‘clamping sides and pub/hotel along the route. It is a scenic route which is however sparsely travelled away from St Cuthberts Way.
