Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

28 May 2023I can only add that when the route turns to a horse trail at the beginning of the Windsor Great Park, you can follow it right up to the Blacknest Gate. There is no need to follow any alternative footpath branching off the horse trail. No cycles are allowed on the horse trail but there are signs warning riders against pedestrians so there should be no problem with access.
A quite enjoyable walk when all the paths are dry.

20 Mar 2023The initial part via Course Road has no pavements for pedestrians, but it's a very quiet residential street and then a little-used road behind the racecourse (unless, presumably, there's a race on) so walking in the road itself is not a problem. It's also much more pleasant than walking along London Road.
Between Winkfield Road and Cheapside Road the path can be very muddy, especially after heavy rain. There are lots of exposed roots and branches. There is a very narrow opening at the end in the gates that I don't believe would be suitable for a wheelchair or buggy to get through. While there is a parallel path in the grass, it is blocked off on the Ascot side so do not take that path if you're doing the route in reverse.
The paved part of the path through the Crown Estate can get some very large puddles that require going onto a narrow muddy/grassy verge to avoid.
After the paved road in Windsor Great Park you turn onto a horse trail. No cycles are allowed, and the trail is loose dirt/sand so I'm not sure how it would be with a wheelchair or buggy.
Once you get to the lake itself the path is entirely paved until you reach the station. There is a small cafe with some picnic tables, although the tables are for customer use only. There is another cafe at the other end of the lake with indoor seating and public toilets. In between the two there are very few benches- I was looking for somewhere to eat lunch and had to wait for a while.
When leaving the park, there is a crosswalk across a busy road. There are no pedestrian lights at the crossing.
Overall this was quite a nice walk. It started out quite similarly to the Ascot-Windsor walk I did the other week, but it was very pleasant walking along the lake this time.
