Description

This is basically the same as Arnocar one, except that it passes through the edge of Gedling Country Park and avoids a section of the route that uses a private drive which is not a public right of way. Passing through Gedling Country Park has the advantage of passing by the park cafe and toilets

Walked from Carlton to Arnold. No major issues, though the paths either side of Lambley Dumble have stiles and narrow plank bridges and are definitely not suitable for wheels of any kind. As noted by an earlier reviewer the new A6211 road has slightly diverted the path up from Gedling - there are no signposts yet but the new paths are surfaced and obvious. If you are unfamiliar with Gedling Country park and it is a clear day, the detour to the two viewpoints is worth doing.

We walked this route in April 2022 after the Gedling access road (Colliery Way) had opened, there is a new pedestrian crossing over the new road. The route starts at Carlton Railway Station and ends at the shops and bus stops in Arnold. It has sections in quiet housing estates and some nice stretches in open countryside with views over the Trent Valley. There are several stiles, narrow bridges and the route was muddy in some places. Refreshments are available at Gedling Country Park nearby. The route crosses Lambley Dumble which is a nice spot for children to explore the stream. The route was easy to navigate for us as we already had some local knowledge of the area. Sections near to farm buildings are signposted and it is clear which path to take.

16 Mar 2022 Winter

I walked this route from Carlton in March, in the week following heavy rain. The first section is alongside quiet roads, then onto a narrow footpath alongside the abandoned railway and over Jubilee Park. After the road crossing more quiet roads lead to a length of public footpath. This is presently being cut by the line of the Gedling relief road (safe crossing provided). More firm field paths lead to Spring Lane. The section through the country park is surfaced. After emerging onto Spring Lane once more the following section to the Mapperley Plains Road was narrow, quite muddy and had several stiles. After crossing Mapperley Plains the route is along quiet suburban roads linked by estate footpaths. Overall an enjoyable route, though not the shortest way between the hubs.

This is very similar to Arnocar one but avoids the route down a private road. It passes through Gedling Country Park where there is a cafe and toilets.
