19 Jun 2024Well I wasn’t quite as adventurous as Dan and Hannah doing this route in the dark!
Walking from Ammanford to Llandeilo (after taking advantage of the Heart of Wales train line). It was a peaceful enjoyable walk along old sleepy hollows, and quiet lanes.
It was a little more ‘bumpy’ than I expected but it was worth it descending into remote valley bottoms, crossing the brook and climbing back up again!
The nature around the area was breathtaking. During the route I startled a fallow dear, tawny owl and near the end of the walk a fox in the middle of the second longest day of the year. Unfortunately I was too slow to get the phone out and take a photo.
The end is a treat walking from Fairfach over the bridge with the views of the colourful houses on the edge of Llandeilo and the River Towy.
Well worth spending a little time in the town with some nice shops and cafes.

15 Mar 2024Walked this in the dark with Dan, and also really enjoyed it, although it's so weird seeing Neil's pictures - I oddly didn't feel I'd missed anything by not having any sight until I saw these! Easy walking on very quiet back roads - I think we were only passed by two or three cars in the whole eight miles. Some nice mulchy holloways so I got alternate sensations of sharp stones and mud massages underfoot - I bet I'd not even noticed if I'd been able to see.
Lots of owls, the toad, and fish hanging silently in a stream that we caught in the beam of our torches. Lovely to walk into Llandeilo, past a spooky derelict house just below the curved bridge - a perfect example of something I've driven past dozens of times without ever seeing. I love walking.

13 Mar 2024Walked this route entirely at night! Really enjoyed it. Met a toad and some fish, could see lights across the valley and loved the dark. The lanes were very quiet and good for walking.
Llandeilo made a great base, with cafes, craft shops and a tasty bakery that had some good vegan options for me.
I'd 100% walk this one again... maybe in the daylight next time!.

06 Jan 2024Beautiful walk through rolling countryside. I got the train from Llandeilo to Ammanford and walked back. I created this route using country lanes and green lanes - trying to avoid too many fields which are very boggy currently. All the country lanes were quiet of traffic. I met some estate management chaps down one of the country lanes who were very friendly and chatty and interested in the route. Very simple to navigate and not too wet or muddy considering the recent weather. Very nice view of western Bannau Brechiniog and Carreg Cennen Castle on its rocky outcrop (worth a visit or detour). Llandeilo is a lovely town to visit with its varied painted houses and unique shops and cafes.
