Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

19 Jun 2024 (edited 21 Jun 2024)Delightful walk, ending next to a stunning church. The route out of Abergavenny is a bit roady, but totally safe, and the walk really takes off as you head towards Skirrid. Lovely meadows and great views, although its hard to know which way to walk it for the best versions. You can always look over your shoulder. After the slightly challenging baler twine farm, the walk into Llangattock Lingoed is lovely. You arrive in the churchyard of St Cadoc, which is grade 1 listed for its fabulous medieval wall painting of St George, stunning rood beam and general loveliness. And there is a pub next door.

18 Jun 2024 (edited 21 Jun 2024)I really enjoyed this walk. Much of it is wonderfully scenic with long views, and the summer vegetation accented with wildflowers. The more workaday parts of the route at the Abergavenny end are efficient and easy to navigate and I forgave it a couple of bad gate-ties, some cattle-poached ground and a potentially mucky farmyard (fine today though) at Tump.
Access good generally and the area is well-walked, though at Tump, the way through the farmyard deviates very minorly from the mapped footpath. Keep the big cow barn on your left (if going in the northeasterly direction) and walk on through the obvious route. Then, in the first field after the yard, use the farm gate to reach the next field. It is a little further downhill than the mapped footpath which heads to a gap now blocked with a pallet. Also, head a bit more towards the left-hand corner of the field than the map indicates as you approach the stream at the bottom of the same hill as there are some brambles in the way.
Cattle, sheep, and possibly a bit of long grass along the way. Lots of stiles. Quite a lot of gentle/moderate ascending/descending. Public transport good at Abergavenny, absent at Llangattock Lingoed as far as I can see.

10 Nov 2022Agree the most direct walking route available between Abergavenny and Llangattock Lingoed, on well waymarked (mostly) rights of way. The gate on leaving Llanddewi Skirrid is not waymarked, and the gate out of Tump Farm is held with binder twine which took a while to re-tie, but no issues to speak of.
A pleasure to walk this route, especially if the Hunter's Moon (next to St Cadoc's Church) is open on your arrival at Llangattock Lingoed.
