Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

28 Apr 2022From a scenery point of view this walk deserves more than the two stars, but it`s one where I missed a turn off on to the mountain path and couldn`t find a good way across the top of the mountain, coming out at a different place. Do not attempt this walk without a map and compass.
There are some steep roads leading out of Abertillery, leading on to a fairly level track. A steep and rocky path to the right then leads on to a track and somewhere shortly after, there is another turn off onto the mountain track (which I missed). Instead, I continued along the track and followed the contoured path around the side of the mountain overlooking the Cwmtillery valley. A sharp right hand turn across from the reservoir then led up to join the planned path on the top of the mountain. From here it was difficult to find a path and in the end I followed a compass heading across the moor, which was a bit of a yomp through thick heather in places, so very hard going. I eventually stumbled on another path heading in the right direction, but it veered away and rather than face another yomp, I followed it, but came out above Blaenavon further south than the planned track. I re-joined the path, but then had troubles finding the way off the mountain. It took a while, but I eventually found the way down into town.
All in all, not an easy walk and there are several places of places where you can go astray. No signage at all along the way. Some great scenery though and I probably saw a lot more than I should have !
