Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

01 May 2022I can only comment on section of Abbyox-1 that correspond with route 2 or are on the road which has been investigated on Google Street View. This route fails to pass the only shop and the bus stop in Yoxall, perhaps the meeting place should be moved to The Crown. The plot is poor and would need additional mapping to follow. My understanding is that a Slow Way should be usable from the plot alone. Many of the paths leaving roads were not signed and stiles were often overgrown so an accurate plot is important. The reinstatement of cross field paths seen in the pictures of the other review was not evident on my walk the following year. I accept this is a good route but the plot does need improving, along with safe stiles.

14 May 2021This was an enjoyable walk through quiet countryside from Abbots Bromley to Yoxall via Hamstall Ridware. We only saw two other walkers (although it was a Friday). In places, it was a bit hard to find the path, as the lack of walkers means that it is not obvious, and what sometimes looked like a path was sheep tracks. At another location (approx grid ref. 097208, photo 8), the clear path through crops petered out and it was not clear which way to go. You need to turn left, go around the edge of a field, cross a small stream, and then there is another path in the field opposite through crops.
There are a lot of stiles. Most were in good condition, although a couple were wobbly. There were no cows on the route on the day of walking (14.5.21), but this wouldn't always be the case given the cowpats observed in the field just before coming into Hamstall Ridware.
The walk starts in Abbots Bromley and comprises a mixture of fields with sheep, pasture, arable fields where the path is mostly easily visible and has been left clear of crops, quiet country lanes and a lovely tree-lined bridleway between fields coming into Yoxall. It might be possible to find a slightly different route earlier on in the walk that would avoid some of the road, but they were very quiet and made for pleasant walking.
