19 Nov 2022Fantastic walk through rural Dorset. It is hilly but as it follows the MacMillan Way for the entire route, it is clearly signed and well maintained.
I walked this route from Maiden Newton to Abbotsbury in November on a sunny day, but after a couple of weeks of rain. I expected it to be a muddy slog, but the paths were really good. The ground was wet and a bit boggy around Watergate, but easily passable and as soon as I climbed to higher ground everything was fine.
The climb up Tenants Hill was hard work, but the views are worth the effort, and at the top there is Kingston Russell stone circle. In fact there are plenty of things to see on this route including numerous Tumuli and strip lynchets.
My tip if you walk the same direction as me, is to keep looking behind you. I like to walk towards the coast, but there were many amazing views behind me.
