    1. For this survey of Tavyel I walked from Tavistock to Yelverton. The route starts at the bust station and is on pavements which are accessible. 0.2 km from start — 23 May 2021

    2. This is typical of the pavement and crossings until you begin ascending on the road portion of the route. 1 km from start — 23 May 2021

    4. The pavements end near 1.5 km in and you walk on a narrow lane that is fairly steep. 1.5 km from start — 23 May 2021

    5. The lane gets narrow and has muddy gutters near embankments. Not much room for a car to pass. 2.5 km from start — 23 May 2021

    6. At the top of the hill you reach a cattle grid and gate. Mud and puddles under the pedestrian gate meant it felt easier to walk the grid. This wouldn’t be good with a wheelchair. 3.8 km from start — 23 May 2021

    7. The path continues as a loose stone path with multiple dips and puddles. 4 km from start — 23 May 2021

    8. The path becomes steep, uneven and rutted. 4.5 km from start — 23 May 2021

    10. Eventually you are walking next to the river bank and the path is dirt, puddles and tree roots. Lovely views but totally inaccessible for wheel users. 4.8 km from start — 23 May 2021

    11. Eventually you reach several challenging sections requiring fording a stream, climbing narrow, steep rocky path. 4.8 km from start — 23 May 2021

    12. This bridge is the only way across the river to get the next part of the path. It is large steps of stone. 5 km from start — 23 May 2021

  13. Photo by

    13. On the far side of the bridge you have to step across large stones to avoid wet feet. No clear path from here to the next section. 5 km from start — 23 May 2021

    14. The next path is very rutted and uneven with water running across or along it at points. Wide enough for a vehicle but very uneven. 5.2 km from start — 23 May 2021

    15. Eventually the path turns into pavement again, it is quite steep but otherwise smooth. 6 km from start — 23 May 2021

  16. Photo by

    16. At the top of the hill, the path heads onto open moorland, muddy and grassy and there isn’t an easily identifiable route. 6.5 km from start — 23 May 2021

  17. Photo by

    17. The route is difficult to follow exactly, but the moor was beautiful and most obstacles could be avoided using slight variation from the path. 8 km from start — 23 May 2021

    18. A crossroads as you are almost to Yelverton. 9.5 km from start — 23 May 2021

  19. Photo by

    19. The path remains uneven but is also more enclosed. Could be muddy. 9.8 km from start — 23 May 2021

  20. Photo by

    20. Eventually you hit a cycle route which is smooth and even and makes the final steps easy. 10.5 km from start — 23 May 2021
