    1. Heading South out of Halstead towards Coggeshall, the route follows decent old town paths behind back gardens. In places it does have barbwire fencing and overgrown hedges 0.5 km from start — 19 May 2024

    2. Leaving Halstead and heading South on a pleasant footpath, the surface is well trodden and compacted earth. Even after rain, this was easily passable and around 50cm wide at it's start. Later it opens out to wide farm tracks. 1 km from start — 19 May 2024

    4. The footpath from Greenstead Green to Burton's Green was muddy in places. This section on a downhill slope was saturated, but passible in Winter. 4 km from start — 19 May 2024

    5. Still heading South on the footpath between Greenstead Green and Burton's Green, this ditch crossing could be an obstacle for some walkers. The route may be too difficult to follow with an offroad pushchair. 4.5 km from start — 19 May 2024

    6. The byway through Burgate Wood is misused during Winter by 4x4 buggies. We picked our way between ruts and large puddles. Passable on foot and with a buggy unless the mud is bad. 8 km from start — 19 May 2024
