For Foxsaw 5219 by Matthew Law

    1. For this survey of 'Foxsaw one' I walked from Foxton to Sawston. This is the bridge over Hoffer Brook as you walk from Foxton to Newton. 2 km from start — 13 May 2021

    2. As the path runs along/near the north bank of Hoffer Brook, the path can be very muddy. This was taken in April after at least a week with no rain and was still very muddy in parts; for significant parts of winter (or after substantial rain) this part would be deep mud or impassable. 2.1 km from start — 13 May 2021

    3. The path was dryer once it gets out of the shelter of the trees – as it goes along the field the route follows an unpaved dirt track also used by vehicles. Although dry in the photo, it would be muddy in winter or wet weather and has ruts from where vehicles used the route when previously muddy. 2.8 km from start — 13 May 2021

    4. The dirt track becomes Town Street in Newton, which has a pavement of sorts for most of its length but this is fairly narrow. It's not a busy road and would generally be fine to walk on the road itself. 3.3 km from start — 13 May 2021

    5. At some points of Town Street in Newton the 'pavement' is just painted on, but the road is not busy. 3.7 km from start — 13 May 2021

    6. Leaving Newton the route follows Whittlesford Road for a small section with no pavement, but a wide enough verge and little enough traffic to not be that dangerous. (this photo shows the view facing into Newton from the direction of Sawston) 4.8 km from start — 13 May 2021

    7. The route from Newton to Whittlesford Road is roughly paved, but has sections with loose gravel 5.4 km from start — 13 May 2021

    8. Fallen tree blocks the main field edge path, but this can easily (on foot) be passed. 7.3 km from start — 13 May 2021

    9. Narrow bridge in the section between Whittlesford Road and Sawston – also muddy ground (in the foreground). (this photo shows the view from the direction of Sawston) 7.5 km from start — 13 May 2021

    10. Rough/muddy ground with roots – this was after a dry spell so I imagine it would be worse in winter/worse weather. (this photo shows the view from the direction of Sawston) 7.6 km from start — 13 May 2021

    11. Wooden footbridge with two steps up to it. (this photo shows the view from the direction of Sawston) 7.7 km from start — 13 May 2021

    12. Railway crossing – there are separate gates for vehicles and for pedestrians, with the pedestrian gates being weighted kissing gates. (this photo shows the view from the direction of Sawston) 7.9 km from start — 13 May 2021

    13. The path as it goes through a field. It is not clearly signposted and I imagine it may change slightly dependent on the season and crops. 8.5 km from start — 13 May 2021

    14. Six steps up to Sawston bypass (from the direction of Foxton). The bypass (A1301) is a usually busy (60mph) road and is crossed at a point with no designated pedestrian crossing or pavement on either side, but the two footpaths on either side are almost directly opposite so it is only a very short distance that goes along the road itself. 8.8 km from start — 13 May 2021

    15. Steps (or a bit of a scramble) up to Sawston bypass (from the direction of Sawston). 8.9 km from start — 13 May 2021
