4. Start of single track roads and climb out of Darvel. This first short section is signposted as part of Irvine Valley path network. It is part of the steepest section of the walk. 2.5 km from start — 13 May 2021
5. Route continues uphill 3 km from start — 13 May 2021
6. Single track road. There are some green verges to stand or walk on with passing traffic. Very little traffic on this section. 3 km from start — 13 May 2021
7. Path junction where you turn right to head to Strathaven or can loop back to Darvel by turning left. 4 km from start — 13 May 2021
8. Potholed section of road. This was the worst section of the route for road quality. 4.5 km from start — 13 May 2021
9. Good tarmac and slightly wider roads around the windfarms. This bridge is wide and can be crossed at the same time as traffic. From this section onwards is an increase in bicycle traffic 10 km from start — 13 May 2021
10. Cross roads where you go straight ahead to Strathaven. From this point onwards, single track road is much busier with traffic. A short detour of 300m to right is a cafe (Heron) which is only option near route for something to drink or eat. 11 km from start — 13 May 2021
11. Good road quality however limited room on verge at points due to hedges if traffic on road. 15 km from start — 13 May 2021
12. Narrowest part of route alongside main road into Strathaven 17 km from start — 13 May 2021
13. This section of pavement is rough in areas with uneven curbs and bollards. Also busy and fast traffic alongside 17 km from start — 13 May 2021
