    1. Starting at the primary bus shelters, in Ashton Town centre and heading east towards Golborne, the crossing of a major road is required. This is however easily achieved by using a pelican crossing with dropped kerbs. 0 km from start — 31 Oct 2021

    2. The route then passes residential and light industrial areas by means of pavements at the side of minor roads. 0.5 km from start — 31 Oct 2021

    3. A short section of the route utilises a tarmacked ginnel. This area can suffer from minor overgrowth and has two concrete bollards at one end. At the time of audit (October 2021) the width of usable path here was 68cm. 1 km from start — 31 Oct 2021

    4. Approximately half way through the route, with the surface being made of compressed stone, a sturdy metal bench is provided. 1.5 km from start — 31 Oct 2021

    5. A barrier in the vicinity of Haydock Park Racecourse presents the narrowest part of the route at 62cm. 2.2 km from start — 31 Oct 2021

    6. The path then follows a perimeter fence of the racecourse by means of an unmade footpath. After wet weather, there is the potential for this section to become muddy. 2.5 km from start — 31 Oct 2021

    7. The roughest part of the route is found whilst traversing a farmers field used to grow crops. As shown in the image, this is liable to become muddy and disturbed by agricultural works. 3 km from start — 31 Oct 2021

    8. The final section follows the pavement of a minor and then relatively major road into Golborne town centre. Cars parked on the pavement have the potential to cause obstruction for some users. 3 km from start — 31 Oct 2021
