07 Dec 2022A short route with a rural mid-section.
Walked in reverse. In Ashton and Golborne, it us well-paved and with shops and transport links at each end. Past Haydock racecourse, however, it is along earthern, sometimes muddy, footpaths, with one section through a field. Ashton Heath too can be wet and muddy, with many paths across it, but one can just as easily walk along the road around the heath.
A foot-only route, and a quick and easy one between the two towns.

13 Oct 2021This is a primarily urban route, passing through farmland near Haydock Racecourse. The surface is predominantly made up of tarmac and compressed stone, with an unmade, but well trodden path through farmland - this section can get muddy after heavy rain.
The width and surface of parts of this path are liable to cause issues for wheelchair users. It is passable by bicycle (although legally questionable on the public rights of way used)
There are several shops, takeaways and other facilities in Golborne, Ashton Moss and Ashton Town Centre.
