Route description
TetMal One has a couple of issues, from my experience of walking it. First, there are a couple of places where the paths are not well-defined, and there is a lack of signage; as if the local farmer is trying to dissuade people from walking across his fields. Second, there is a significant section through a large estate (Estcourt) where there are so many gates, with double latches (like child-proof latches), that make it really slow and take away much of the enjoyment of walking. It's like going round all the roundabouts round Milton Keynes (my apologies, no offence intended, if you live in Milton Keynes). This route is slightly longer but tries to avoid those issues. The route drops down from Malmesbury to the Station Car Park (Long Stay); if you park your car there, there's really ne need to go up the start just to come back down again. The photo shows the view from the bridge, alongside the ford, as the Fosse Way crosses the local Avon. The 'downside of this route is that the final section is along the B4014. I accept that this is a busy road; however, for the complete section that is on 'MalTet 2' there is a pavement alongside the road, allowing for safe walking.
