Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

14 Jan 2024 (edited 15 Jan 2024)I created this route because although WESRAD one and two are good routes, both involve more road walking than is absolutely necessary. I walked it from Radcliffe to West Bridgford and enjoyed it.
Starting at Radcliffe, the first part of the route as far as Holme Pierrepont is shared with WESCOT two - there is no real alternative to Holme Lane, which is popular with walkers and cyclists, and what cars there are are usually respectful. Just beyond the Hall, we turn sharply left along Sandy Lane, which passes between fields and fishing lanes to emerge on the A52 at the bottom of Stragglethorpe Road. The main road has pelican crossings here, and the lights help with crossing Stragglethorpe Road. We then head across an arable field on a clear path, then cross a patch of rougher ground, descend a small escarpment and continue across more arable fields to Bassingfield.
At the road junction we take the bridlepath left to the Grantham Canal, which we follow out to Tollerton Road, where we turn right so that we can cross the A52 safely at the pelican crossings on the old Bassingfield Lane. We continue on quiet streets and paths (mostly paved but one grassy section) to rejoin the canal, which we cross on a little bridge. We then turn right, crossing half the main road under a bridge with a few steps.
The canal path continues beyond the crossing, and just beyond where the path rejoins the main road we use another pelican crossing, then use Mable Grove to reach Bridgford Park, which we cross to the West Bridgford meeting point opposite the Co-Op. In the unlikely event that the park gates are locked, there are easy alternatives using pavements or the path from Edward Road.
