Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

29 Mar 2022This is a wonderful route as it connects West Haddon to Market Harborough in a direct route without hardly touching any roads at all.
I walked this route from Market Harborough to West Haddon as part of the Slow Ways Swarm in March. It is only suitable doing on foot as there are quite a few stiles and a couple of them a bit awkward to get over (see photos below).
I did walk past a field with some beautiful old breed of cattle but didn't have to walk through any fields with cattle in them. At other times of the year there would be cattle in some fields.
I loved the walk as the scenery was so varied - I walked through fields, across a reservoir, along the canal, down a Redwood Avenue and along a track with cherry trees in blossom. It was easy walking with no steep hills but I think it could get quite muddy in places after recent rain.
There was a particularly lovely section from Elkington to Winwick along a Byeway which gave me feel for what walking through the countryside would have been like 100 years ago!
The route hardly touched any roads at all - in fact the only real bit of road was through Welford and went past the village shop so handy if you needed to buy supplies!
I think I did detour a couple of time - once in Welford where I took the footpath, marked "Butchers Close" linking High Street to West Street rather than Church Lane. Also around Winwick you could either stay on the route marked "Jurassic Way" which takes you through the little village or cut out the village using the footpath across the fields.
