Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

08 Feb 2022I really liked this route, but in February 2022 the access to the Thames Path on the south side of the river from the bridge is closed. Even when the path is open, the crossing of Embankment Road isn't as marked. I've uploaded Vicken two to address this issue.
Otherwise, it's a really great route. Lots to discover along the way, good urban adventuring, lots of scenic spots, too.
Of course, if you really want to be direct about it, you could stick to the main roads the whole way. If you have a bit more time, this route (or Vicken two) are great alternatives.

14 Oct 2021This is quite a nice city Slow Way across the Thames. After leaving the busyness of Victoria Station behind you are soon walking the quiet streets South. There are plenty of food options at the street market on the pedestrianised Tachbrook Street.
This route also passes beside the green space of Bessborough Gardens before joining the busy but protected walk across Vauxhall Bridge.
At the time of walking October '21 the steps and cut through behind the MI5 building were closed but they should re-open soon.
The route winds through Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens (with its city farm) and then takes you past the iconic Oval stadium.
You can take the opportunity to pop into the tranquil oasis of the Harleyford Road Community Gardens for a breath of fresh air before continuing down the road to Oval station.
If you don't need to hop onto the tube at Oval then Kennington Park is a great spot for a coffee.

19 Aug 2021Acess to the Thames Pathway by the side of the MI6 building (on suggested route) is currently blocked due to ongoing works, so you have to go via the busy crossing either by Vauxhall bus station or Kennington Lane onto Bridgefoot.
Rest of the route is good as it avoids busy Vauxhall Bridge Road and cuts through the slightly more scenic residential areas.
No other acess issues encountered.
