Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

08 Sep 2025 (edited 13 Sep 2025)This Slow Way has some great sections but also some access issues and inaccuracies requiring a new plot of the route.
The main problem with it at the moment is that it is firmly blocked by a closed footpath level crossing on the mainline railway between Stoke St Gregory and Stathe at w3w prospers.tamed.exams (see photo). There were no notices at the point of closure indicating whether this is a temporary or permanent and I couldn’t find any obvious information online either. Secondarily there is a zone of poor access through some arable fields between Ham and Knapp which is unpleasant to walk (see second photo for access at the Ham end) and I wouldn't recommend currently. Better to just walk up the road in this area.
Finally, in Taunton, the route takes the lower, unpaved path on the southern side of the river Tone to the edge of town (see third photo) which, while a nice walk, is a narrow path more prone to mud and flooding when there is a better, higher-lying cycle route with a good surface on the northern bank of the river. Also the plotting of the right of way near the A38 road crossing near the old Creech Castle hotel site is inaccurate and the route cannot now be walked as it is mapped.
