Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

02 Oct 2022The route started well from Swadlincote (to the north) but I ran into trouble in Swainspark. The route asks you to follow a footpath which runs with a cycle path. The map presents 2 options - a combined footpath/cycleway or a footpath. In reality you are faced with 3 options, from left to right, a cycleway or two footpaths. The reality is that the "footpath" that appears to be the right choice for the Slow Way soon joins the one to the right and you find yourself diverting away from the route. The cycleway is badly marked on the OS Map as it actually follows a path adjacent to the railway and is never concurrent with the footpath. I chose to follow the cycleway instead and there were opportunities to rejoin the separate footpath but only as loops. It was noticeable that dog walkers and joggers all opted to follow the cycleway. Cyclists were there but rare. It made far more sense to follow the popular friendly cycleway from an ease of walking, direct route and ease of navigation point of view. This route, as it is marked is impossible. I have submitted the walkable version as Swamea Two.
