Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

27 Sep 2025 (edited 28 Sep 2025)Walked from Measham to Swadlincote. An excellent route entirely on good paths and pavements. I walked this immediately after walking from Market Bosworth to Measham, which made for quite a long day, so I was grateful for the flatter sections which follow the old colliery railways.
From Measham, we head south down the High Street and past the library, then follow the NCN signs right onto the old railway. Note that where we cross the A42 the railway track is not an option, as it is now under a main road's embankment, but the route along the pavement of Burton Road is well signposted (everything from Measham High Street to Spring Cottage is part of the Ashby Woulds Heritage Trail) and easy to follow. We leave the railway again at Donisthorpe, heading left up to Church Street then crossing through the old colliery gates into a country park, where we follow the paths northwards, eventually picking up the line of the railway again.
Where the old railway joins the Ivanhoe Line (the little used freight railway from Burton to Leicester which campaigners are hoping to get reopened for passengers), the path continues just west of the railway, with a few ups and downs mostly necessitated by the road crossings. Eventually we reach Park Road, and from here the route is mostly the same as TamMea two which I walked earlier in the week and is straightforward and fairly easy to follow. The two differences are both slightly longer here than the alternative version - this version passes the gates of Gresley Rovers football ground and misses the shortcut path into Swadlincote bus station from the square.
