09 Apr 2023This route has a great deal of potential as it follows the excellent old waggonway from Kibblesworth to Andrew's House station on the Tanfield railway. However, it then follows the main road from Andrew's house to Sunniside. This is NOT safe for pedestrians and should not be attempted. See the suggested route in SUNKIB two which solves this problem.

03 Jan 2023I walked this route from Kibbleworth to Sunniside so in general I was walking uphill.
This route is in two parts from Kibblesworth to St Andrews House/ Tanfield Railway, after exiting the village via the aptly named Clarty Lane (Muddy Lane) follows the Bowes Railway Path. This is easy walking along a well made path shared with cyclists. There are occasional sculptures and artworks along this stretch for added interest. The other part is the deal braker for this route as it takes you along the busy A6076. There is no footpath beside this road and the traffic typically is moving very fast. A walker is very vulnerable.
I cannot therefore recommend this route - however all is not lost as there is a great aletrnative route which replaces the road section - The Tanfiield Railway Path which I have described in Sunkib two.
