Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

27 Jun 2024I walked from Salford Crescent station which may not be Salford. Crossing the busy road using lights we take an estate road which in addition has a wide pavement plus cycle track so is good safe walking. It has underpasses to bypass the roundabout at the start of the M602 so no issues. Taking the west side of the exit road, again a wide pavement plus cycle track. We cross the road at lights and enter the traffic free Salford Quays.
The walk alongside the redeveloped old dock is quiet but the water is devoid of interest. At the end we could turn left to pass The Lowry and use an alternative bridge passing the Imperial War Museum but this route takes The Crescent via Media City where there are bars and restaurants. Crossing the wide canal we are back on modern roads with good active travel provision close by is the still working Whitworth flour mill.
We share a short walk alongside the tram track and more roadside paths with a hidden disused rail line then a sign directs us onto the towpath of the Bridgewater canal. Here the narrow path is busy with cyclists so attention is required to hear their approach and move out of the way.
We pass over the branch canal which uses the Barton Swing Aqueduct to cross the Ship Canal and links to the Leeds and Liverpool canal. Close to journeys end we pass under a road then double back then double back again to the meeting point at the depressing tram station. I suggest a better location could be found.
