08 Feb 2023The walk is really nice. I started it in Chorlton Ivy Green instead of Stretford. To avoid having to walk on the pavement on Barlow Moor Road at the end, I would recommend continuing following the Mersey around Northenden Golf Course, then using the footpath through Withington Golf Course to join the Mersey again, and walk through Fletcher Moss then through Didsbury Park.

20 Mar 2022An easy route along wide, popular riverside paths. If you'd rather skip the road walking at the Didsbury end (and you're ok with steps) follow Saldid 1 for this section. There are toilets at Chorlton Water Park, refreshments at Jackson's Boat and, in season, ice creams vans and coffee carts at Chorlton Water Park. The path's a little rougher for the section from the water park to Darley Avenue, with short stony, sandy or rutted sections up to 100m in length.
It's unlit except for the road section, but remains busy with dog walkers until dusk and generally feels safe.
There are three sets of steps - down to the canalside path at Stretford, down to Hawthorn Lane/Road close by, and back up to Darley Avenue from the river. All three offer slightly longer, step-free routes if you prefer. There are two fairly spacious kissing gates with width clearance up to about 90cm.

10 May 2021Superb route for walking or a mountain/hybrid bike. Canal towpath nicely paved with wide dirt track for most of the river. Pub by the river around half-way. Only doesn't get five stars as this wouldn't be a good route for those who need a smooth path, and no amenities outside of the pub. Not far from built-up areas though, so wouldn't be hard to access shops or a place to stay if needed, and there are plenty of places to eat and drink at each end of the route.
