26 Jul 2023My final walk of the day and another that offers a pleasant quiet green urban route.
Leaving Stoke station the bridge under the rail line is clean and well used. A stepped approach to the canal can be avoided then it's an easy walk along a good surface which almost unnoticed crosses over the infant River Trent.
A short section of road then an estate road leads surprisingly to a good path across a grassed area which after crossing another minor road takes us past Smith Pool. Here the path might be a bit muddy under the trees.
After a walked path across a field of long grass we enter a newish estate and the roads lead onto the main road at Heron Cross. Another quiet street with an old bottle kiln sprouting from a factory roof then a slope leads to a pelican crossing. Onward alongside the railway a well used wide surfaced path leads to the retail park of Longton before arriving at the station and the traditional shopping centre with it's huge Market Hall.

29 Jan 2023This route was remarkably off-road for such an urban area. It started from Stoke-on-Trent down steps and along the canal, past some interesting boats, then on past the Pye Hill Clock Tower and into a pleasant park. A short road section led to a surfaced path alongside the railway, with more railway interest (signal box, pedestrian level crossing, partially filled arches) leading to Longton Station.
A small step longer than StoLon One, a giant leap better!.

29 Jan 2023Really rather enjoyable stroll between Stoke and Longton stations incorporating pavement, towpath, park track and footpath. Very easy to follow and mostly offroad. Steps at the Stoke end, but with a visible ramp alternative for access to the Trent and Mersey Canal. Interesting architecture throughout.
