10 May 2024A lovely walk, but three changes would mean the Kendal end is on paths rather than roads.
1. South of Bowston there is a path on the East side of the river, ending up on Hall road which then leads into Burneside.
2. South of Burneside there is a path just to the West of the road which continues until you turn Left, crossing the road to reach a path that goes through woodland to the Golf Course.
3. Crossing from the woodland the path continues to the river and then onwards along the river until opposite Mintsfeet you rejoin the road.
Hope that helps.

01 Jan 2024December 2023. Direction: Staveley to Kendal.
This route follows the River Kent most of the way and what a superb route it is, following the Dales Way alongside the river for a good length of the route. Absolutely beautiful, even at this time of year ! The last stretch is a little bit of a trudge along the road into Kendal, but the sheer beauty of the earlier part more than makes up for it.

14 Nov 2023A pleasant walk between Kendal and Staveley. Nearer to Kendal it is necessarily less pleasant but keep an eye out for the otters (very) occasionally seen along the river bank.
I agree it is more enjoyable to follow the river/Dales Way between Staveley and Cowan Head.

25 Nov 2021The route leaves Staveley on a path slightly separated from the road and next to the River Kent. It leaves the road just before the level crossing and follows the Dales Way alongside the river to Cowan Head. A bit of care is needed in places, as the path can be stony, with tree roots crossing it sometimes. The footpath can also flood after very heavy rain. There are a couple of ladder stiles and also a stone wall stile which is difficult to spot when leaving the first woods. This section is incredibly pretty and is generally easy to follow.
From Cowan Head it is B roads nearly all the way. Mostly these are paved, sometimes via a path separated from the road by a hedge. The route passes through Burneside, which apparently has toilets at the church, and has a station and a pub. The pub appeared to be closed when I passed it, but its website suggests it is normally open every day, including lunchtime. The walk into Kendal is nothing special, although the final riverside section is pleasant.
