Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

31 Mar 2024From Adlington, the route went straight to the canal, where access involved three steps, a cobbled slope, and an A-frame cycle barrier. The towpath was mostly compacted gravel, but was muddy in places after a very wet winter (probably dry at other times).
There was soon an aqueduct over a river, where the stonework had old grooves worn by towropes.
The canal passed through a peaceful, rural area and there were paths leading off to woodland walks. There was also an aqueduct over Cycle Route 55, currently an unsurfaced former railway line which I think would make another good alternative route for this Slow Way.
The route left the canal at Bridge 63. It was necessary to go under the bridge first, then advisable to cross the road before walking along it, as the pavement on the south side of the road ran out, and the road was busy.
The footpath leaving the A5106 led to a stepped footbridge over the railway, then a lane which became very muddy, but hopefully will be fine in drier weather. The route deviated from the OS mapped line, due to new housing. It then followed residential roads to reach the pleasant heart of Standish.
