Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

07 May 2025Mostly a good route, but there's s couple of inaccuracies. First, the footpath to Plex Moss Lane suggests you go straight across to the road, but there's no way across the deep ditch, so you need to follow the track to join the road.
From here, we're supposed to go up a footpath between two ponds. Only, they don't exist, so again we have to divert along a farm track.
On finally arriving at Haskayne, for some reason the route follows the often-busy A-road, but there is a far more attractive canal towpath nearby.
I've taken the best parts of this route and adjusted/corrected the errors on SouDow Two.

22 Jan 2022Mixture of urban and country roads with about a third off road through fields. Not accessible to wheelchairs. Two short sections of busy road without pavement requiring care and one on a quiet country road. At one point a short section of the path is completely overgrown but can be circumvented by a short detour west to pick up a farm track which returns you to the path. This at the crossing at Plex Moss Lane where the path south must be on the west side of the drainage ditch. The route finishes with a walk along the pavement of a busy A road which gains some height in a flat area and hence a view. This can be avoided by joining the canal which remains lower and would deny the view. There is good public transport from Downholland to Liverpool and to Soutport, and the New Scarisbrick Arms for refreshment.
