I walked this route which I mapped as I went, as a viable alternative to ShiBra One, so it is doable but I think it can be improved upon, which I plan to research

29 Mar 2022From Shipley Station the route turns under two railway bridges and crosses a field between the railway and river. This feels a little isolated and near the end there is quite a drop down to the river where the fence is missing. From the A6037 cycle route 66 is accessed and followed until Gaisby Road. This is quite pleasant and easy.
Turning up Gaisby Road, the climb gets steeper. A local resident told me I couldn’t access the hillside from Chestnut Grove, and told me to go further up the hill into the woods, so this is what the route shows. (I’m not convinced, as it is marked as public right of way on OS and it is described as the Dalesway Link on council and Dales Way websites.)
The path through the woods was fun, very hilly and muddy! It came out onto the hill with its fabulous views, tethered grazing horses, and kids playing on mini motorbikes. The descent had to skirt further east than the original route, due to fenced off new housing. This involves going through a large gap at the side of a locked gate, which looked as if pedestrians are allowed but not cars.
Weaving through the housing and up some steps leads to a busier road which in turn leads to a steep main road uphill past locked allotments. A sharp turn leads back downhill on a quieter road down into the city.
Not a very satisfactory route, but the views from the hill were superb!.
