Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

04 Nov 2022I have walked all of this route in sections over the years, and many possible variations along the way. Given how little of it is on roads, and even then they are pretty minor roads, I think this is an excellent route. The only sections to watch out for are in the final approaches to Romsey on the path from Awbridge to Squabb Wood which crosses an active gravel pit, so can involve diversions, and then in the lower end of Squabb Wood itself which can be very wet and difficult going in the winter months.
There is an alternative route possible which misses out the road walking in Farley, by heading north west and along a more northern route through Bentley Wood, through West Tytherley and Stoney Batter before rejoining the stated route at Dummer Copse. I will map that and submit when I get a moment.
Of course one added advantage is that if you run out of steam at Dunbridge you can jump on the train for 1 stop to Romsey, assuming the timings work out (they dont stop there often, particularly at the weekend).

16 Sep 2022I walked from Salisbury to Mottisfont and found it a pleasant route, much of it on forest tracks through managed woodland. A few gates, the only stiles were on the section through Lockerley Park estate. This was also the only section that wasn't well waymarked - it took me a while to find the gap in the hedge at the pub car park. There's a long section through the Bentley Wood nature reserve and the route goes past at least two other nature reserves. Easy walking for the most part - the only really challenging thing about this route is its length!.

23 Aug 2021I followed the route from Romsey to Salisbury, providing lovely start and end points. Delightful route taking in the NT Mottisfont estate and a surprisingly high proportion of woodland trails and paths. A little bit gooey in places after heavy rainfall but mainly good walking.

26 Apr 2021Nice route. Road walking could be reduced by diverting via the Test Way when approaching Mottisfont village. This would miss Dunbridge station, but the route diverted as such could be joined by following the well signed footpath from Dunbridge to Mottisfont.
Will try and contribute an alternative route via Dean Hill if I have a moment.
