Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

16 Jul 2022The portion between Romiley and Compstall is not fit for purpose. After entering Redbrow Wood and passing through a gate, the route turns right onto a trail which is poorly maintained and overgrown. The bracken eventually got six foot high, and pushing through it, it's easy to miss that there is also a steep slope off the trail to your right. I found it by falling down it.
The existence of the slope is of course obvious if you think about where the river is, but the fact that it's invisible and the trail is so hard to follow here is why I'm flagging for safety.
This is followed by an unprotected crossing of Compstall Lane, and then I got lost (my own fault) so I can't comment on the next section. I went down to Etherow Country Park and quit for the day. We need a route that doesn't use the Redbrow Wood section.
I am pretty sure the rest of this route is good, though: I've walked Ernocroft Wood up to Glossop Road before, and Brown Low down to Glossop is shared with another reviewed route (Marglo) and should be fine. As I've flagged the route, it feels silly to give any higher than one star at this point.
