Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

07 May 2021 (edited 27 Jun 2023)There are numerous sections of the route which are incorrect and in one case uses an extinguished path. We did this route in reverse from Bedford to Riseley.
These are the amendments that need to be made.
1) The first section which is through Bedford and out into the countryside is fine although you need to be careful to follow the waymarkers carefully through the golf course to take the correct path and not be hit by a golf ball!
2) The download shows that at GR 040578 you need to dogleg up the road and back when there is actually a path directly across from the stile to the start of the track you head down.
3) At GR 043585 (Blackburn Hall) the route shows you walking through a farm yard when in fact the footpath goes right round the edge and then heads NE across the field and then sharply west back to the main path.
4) At GR 035606 (Park Farm) the download shows a route across the field to GR 033608 (Red House Farm). This path doesn't exist and you need to turn sharp right at the farm and follow the route along the field edge.
5) The download shows a direct route along a footpath from 037614 to 038622. This route doesn't exist and the final section is being officially 'extinguished'. A new route along the track behind the property in question is due to become a path but it still has signs up saying 'No footpath'.
6) There is a much better route into (out of) Riseley. At GR 033613 (NE corner of Galsey Wood) head NNW following the bridleway and then at the next junction turn right and then sharp left (NW) and then right and follow this bridleway all the way to the road junction at GR 033623. Cross the road and follow 'The Butts' NE until the footpath on the right at GR 035625. Take either of the two paths back into the centre of the village. Bus No 28 will take you back to Bedford.
