Description

Walking Slow Ways from Romiley to Whaley Bridge I needed to link Hazel Grove with Poynton, I looked at buses but routes were poor being a journey from Stockport MBC to Cheshire East. There is a Slow Way that I had already reviewed so here is Poyhaz-2 which is mostly on road but avoids a bit of road that all have said is not ideal

Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

Leaving Hazel Grove station avoiding the direct route which has steps it’s a short section of roadside pavement then a central refuge crossing to join an enclosed footpath. This links to an area named Norbury Moor but has been housing since the 1930s. These roads have a 20mph limit imposed and offer a quiet route to Macclesfield Road where there are a few shops. Road crossings here are light controlled so safe together with pavements throughout, including the A555.

It must be a feature of Garden Centres in the North West to have a miniature railway. I didn’t get to see the one marked on the map at Dobbies Marple, Dragon Miniature Railway, real steam but now closed until March. The sign at Brookside Garden Centre announced ‘Trains Running Today’. I heard a diesel toot and waited a while but nothing appeared so the picture is track only.

We can escape from the traffic noise, just, from Towers Road using either an unimproved earth footpath or the residential part of London Road. Later we walk alongside Poynton Lake, here the path along the east side may offer a better walk but would add to the distance.

Back on the road the sign for traffic reads ‘Give Way to all’ but I’m taking no chances with no signs or lights to control traffic and pedestrians.
