Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

26 Feb 2023I walked the route from Port Isaac to Tintagel on a sunny day February. The route is visually spectacular with amazing and interesting views throughout and as the majority of the route follows the coast path it’s very well signed and easy to follow. Food and drink options are relatively limited with Trebarwith Strand providing the only mid-route option, though Port Isaac and Tintagel have plenty to offer on that score at either end. It was a hugely enjoyable day of walking along a fantastic section of coastline. All that said it should definitely be noted that the route is strenuous with a lot of height gain. Paths are narrow in a lot of places with very steep drops in close proximity and you have to cross a wide variety of stiles. This is not a route for people who are scared of heights and is not suitable for wheeling. It is a full days walk and so make sure to allow plenty of time to soak in the scenery.

26 Feb 2023This is a great way to travel between these two locations, but it requires fitness and/or a good amount of time. This section of the South West coast path is one of the hilliest in Cornwall but very pleasant to walk and we'll signposted.
The exit from Port Isaac and entrance to Tintagel aren't directly on the coast path but were checked and I can confirm they are accurately mapped and usable.
There are many Stiles and kissing gates along the route and given the very steep nature of the terrain there are also lots of steps and winding paths. It is therefore not suitable for wheeling.
The views are fantastic and there are no roads of concern on this route. It passes through Trebarwith Strand which is the only place to resupply en route, with a pub, toilets (seasonal) and a shop or two.
Overall a great addition to the slow ways network.

24 Apr 2021This is a wonderful route, shows off the best bits of the South West Coastal path.
This is a hard route very up and down lots of steps up and down the coastal valleys. You will need to take enough water and snacks to keep you going. Trebarwith will be your next stop for ice creams or food and a pint at Port William pub. After that its just a few more climbs out of the village towards Tintagle.
